E. Emmet Reid papers, 1889-1974.

Collection consists of reprints, extensive student notes, lecture notes, correspondence, and patents of Johns Hopkins professor of chemistry, E. Emmet Reid. Included also are 2 volumes of letters to his parents written from Richmond College, and several chemistry books belonging to Reid. Of interest are transcripts of tapes during which Dr. Reid recorded recollections of his early childhood, his student years, his career in chemistry, and his government research in chemical warfare.

Biographical Note: E. Emmet Reid was born in Fincastle, VA in 1872. He was graduated from Richmond College in 1892. Reid was a student of Ira Remsen at The Johns Hopkins University and received his Ph. D. in chemistry, 1898. Reid taught chemistry at Johns Hopkins 1908 until 1937 when he retired as professor emeritus.
